I dag fikk jeg en mail med følgende forespørsel angående en gammel dukke som synes å forestille en and:
Hi, My name is Deanna and I reside in New York. Recently I acquired this from an estate of an elderly doll collector. Could this be Donald Duck? It is worn and stained and appears to be old or at least vintage. He stands about 19 inches(=ca 48cm) tall and is very big. The detail on this doll is phenomenal. Whoever made this doll spared no detail. He has old metal buttons on his Scottish outfit and it the words "Salzburg" with some kind of a crest on one it {see pictures}. The coat buttons also have a crest. His bagpipes are made out of wood. He is all felt, including his outfit which is very elaborate and he even has real fur hanging from his pocketbook. He has some sort of heavy wires in him and he can be bent to pose. His arms have some kind of metal rods and they can move up and down. He also has pie eyes. I looked for stamps, labels and signatures and can't find them anywhere. If he once had them they may have fell off over time.
Could he be German, Austrian or Italian made? How old could he be? Who made him? Do you happen to know the value of something like this?
I am so sad that he has some water damage, moth holes and some breakage to the wood on his bagpipes. Can he be restored or cleaned? He is also covered in a layer of dust.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I posted to the eBay Disneyana message board and someone told me to email you. Thanks in advance for any info you can give me.

Yes, I'm pretty sure I recognize that -- it is Italian made from the 1960's. There are a number of these in different costumes, and none are really supposed to be any specific character. The owner doesn't say there is a Disney tag, and you might think there's really no reason why anyone would suspect it's Disney-related as it bears no resemblance to any Disney character. However, the truth is that these dolls *were* licensed by Disney, which makes no sense! Why would someone seek to pay Disney a license fee for a doll that they did not need to share the proceeds with Disney to produce? Perhaps they thought the Disney tag would cause better sales? Anyway, I don't look for the dolls even though they have Disney tags -- they aren't Disney characters, so phooey on 'em.
